The Embassy of Ecuador and Periscopio Sur, Association for Latin American Cinema in Línea Imaginaria Cinema, have signed a Collaboration Agreement to strengthen cultural diplomacy and promote the dissemination of Ecuadorian cinema and culture in Spain.
The objective of this alliance is to strengthen the articulation of the Ecuadorian Film Festival in Spain “Línea Imaginaria”, which has been held since 2018, as well as to promote the realization of film-debates, forums, and educational workshops that will bring together filmmakers, academics, diplomatic representatives, and the Ecuadorian migrant community to reflect, through cinema, on the social and cultural reality of the South American country.
The Embassy of Ecuador states in a statement that “with this agreement, we reaffirm our commitment to build bridges between Ecuador and Spain, promoting Ecuadorian talent and generating spaces for encounter, dialogue, and collective construction from culture.”
The Ecuadorian Film Festival in Spain “Línea Imaginaria” is a non-competitive film showcase that takes place annually in Madrid with the aim of disseminating the culture, history, and audiovisual production of Ecuador in European territory. The name of the event plays with the concept of the equatorial line that divides the planet and the ability of cinema to create new collective “imaginaries.”
The organization of the Festival is the responsibility of Periscopio Sur, a non-profit association made up of Latin American and Spanish cultural managers, and the theme of its screenings usually revolves around identity, historical memory, cultural diversity, and the experience of Ecuadorian migration.
