On June 23rd, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, the Plaza de Oriente in Madrid gathered nearly a thousand people, in an event organized by the Embassy of India, which turned one of the most emblematic spaces of the capital into a meeting point for well-being, health, and cultural exchange.

Madrid celebrated the 12th International Yoga Day (IDY) with enthusiastic participation, reflecting the enduring appeal of yoga and its universal message of well-being. This day is celebrated every June 21st as established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.

Addressing the hundreds of participants gathered for the celebration, Ambassador Shri Jayant N. Khobragade highlighted that International Yoga Day, an initiative of the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has become a global movement. Referring to this year’s theme: ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’, the ambassador emphasized “the importance of yoga as a tool to promote unity and harmony around the world.”

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Community of Madrid, Luis Fernando Martín Izquierdo. Once again, the large presence of attendees highlighted the growing popularity of yoga in Spain and around the world.
