Yesterday, Monday, Husni Abdel Wahed, Ambassador of Palestine in Spain, said goodbye on social media to the Embassy, after four years of intense work and being the first Palestinian representative to hold the position of Ambassador after the recognition of the Government of Spain to the Palestinian State on May 28, 2024.

“Friends, sisters, brothers,” begins his message Ambassador Husni Abdel Wahed, “the time has come to take flight back to Gaza. It has been four years and almost three very intense months, with a genocide in between, total destruction of humanity, of victims, of the wounded, mutilated, murdered, with a truly horrible toll on a human level, on a political level, on all kinds of levels.”

Immediately the outgoing ambassador wanted to thank Spain “infinitely” in his message “at the popular, institutional level, which has always shown unconditional support for human values, and we have witnessed so many signs and expressions of affection and solidarity with the fate. I want to thank you for being on the right side of history, and rest assured that today Spain is a world leader in the defense of human values, of human rights, of international law, of multilateral relations, at a time when others are imposing a new doctrine of international politics based solely on force and the law of the cell.”

“As you know, it is no privilege to be Palestinian, but the truth is that here we have been made to feel privileged. Personally, I was honored and privileged to represent my people, my cause, and I had the opportunity to try to defend this cause, this people, as much as I could. During all this time we have made significant progress in Palestinian-Spanish bilateral relations, starting with the recognition of the Spanish State to the State of Palestine, the signing of different agreements and accords, and we have always kept in mind the interest and benefit of ordinary people. Whether it is an agreement in the field of culture, health, agriculture, the exchange of driving licenses, etc.”, continues the Palestinian ambassador in his farewell statement.

Husni Abdel Wahed concludes by emphasizing that “I leave with the joy of returning home, but with a very deep feeling of unconditional love for this country, its people, and all that it represents. So receive an infinite hug and goodbye forever. Thank you.”

On September 16, 2024, Husni Abdel Wahed presented his Credentials to the King Felipe VI, in an event that culminated in the announcement of the recognition by the Spanish president, Pedro Sánchez, of the Palestinian State, being the first ambassador to be accredited as Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Spain.
