Spain and Egypt have experienced in recent years “an exceptional boost in their bilateral relations, based on mutual trust and the commitment to build a strong strategic partnership,” said the Egyptian ambassador, Ehab Ahmed Badawy, during his speech on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the July 23 Revolution.

“A crucial milestone in modern Egyptian history, which consolidated national pride, social justice, and the work for a better future,” added the head of the North African country’s diplomatic mission in Spain in reference to the Revolution of 1952.

After describing the current stage of relations with Spain as “promising for a qualitative leap”, the ambassador reviewed the visits that have taken place in recent times, starting with the “historic” one carried out by President Abdelfatah al Sisi in 2025, which “marked a fundamental turning point that laid the foundations for a strategic partnership.”

He added that the visit made in September of that same year by Kings Felipe and Letizia, and the one repeated by Don Felipe two months later to attend the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, “confirmed the joint political will to elevate bilateral relations to the highest level”. Something that Egypt aspires to achieve if its desire to “soon receive the visit” of the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, is fulfilled.

After emphasizing that “our foreign policies are based on respect for international law, humanitarian law, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts,” the ambassador argued that “the weight of both countries in their regional environments makes our partnership indispensable for the stability of the Mediterranean.”

A reference that allowed him to highlight the military collaboration that exists between both countries, as confirmed by the upcoming presence of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General Francisco Braco, at the International Exhibition of El Alamein, which will take place from September 7 to 10, where Spain will deploy for the first time an A400M and an EF-18M.

The strength of the strategic partnership was also highlighted by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Diego Martínez Belío, who expressed confidence that “it will allow us to continue strengthening those bonds of friendship, historical, economic, and military that are based on the commitment to international law and on working together to promote stability on both sides of the Mediterranean.”

The ambassador concluded by expressing his desire for the Year of Egyptian-Spanish Culture, which will be celebrated in 2028, to be “a historic milestone to deepen communication between our peoples and launch sustainable cultural initiatives that strengthen mutual understanding.”
