The MAD-Madrid Digital Arts Immersive Experience Center (Plaza de Legazpi, 8) will host a new immersive experience starting September 18 with the exhibition The Odyssey. The Immersive Journey.
The exhibition transports the audience to ancient Greece during the Mycenaean period to relive, alongside the hero Odysseus, the trials and adventures of his long return to Ithaca. On this occasion, MAD adapts one of the great classics of universal literature, Homer’s Odyssey, and explores one of the most fascinating civilizations in Western history.
After the international success of previous productions such as Tutankhamun, The Last Days of Pompeii, The Legend of the Titanic or Cleopatra, MAD’s proposals have traveled to 24 cities across four continents and have surpassed 5 million visitors worldwide.
This exhibition has been created with the enjoyment of the whole family in mind and proposes a new way to experience history and approach Homer’s poem, inviting both adults and children to discover together the adventures of Odysseus. From the battlefield before the walls of Troy and the ingenuity of the wooden horse, to the encounter with the cyclops Polyphemus, the seduction of the Sirens, the descent to Hades, the feared passage between Scylla with six heads and the whirlpool of Charybdis, and the long-awaited return to his family in Ithaca.
The Odyssey features a spectacular and educational guided tour narrated by the voice of Homer, the author to whom tradition attributes the poem and who serves as the narrator throughout the entire experience. The audience will progress through scenic recreations, immersive 360° projections, a metaverse space, multisensory virtual reality, and a holographic installation, to delve into the Greece of heroes and follow Odysseus’s journey.
Equipped with noise-canceling headphones, visitors enter a fully interactive virtual world, where they can open doors and take a torch to light their way, guided from the very first moment by the voice of Homer, who introduces each room and accompanies them throughout the entire experience.
It is worth noting that, for the first time, the experience is also available in English, including the main immersive room. From the metaverse and the holographic installation to the interactive rooms and the exhibition panels, the international audience will be able to follow every moment of the story in its entirety. This makes it the most accessible production created by the studio to date.
