The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, insisted yesterday on the Spanishness of Ceuta and Melilla during her stay in the former, where after visiting the facilities of the Tercio Duque de Alba, she met with the president of the autonomous city, Juan Jesús Vivas, and with the commander general of Ceuta, Major General Luis Jesús Fernández Herrero.
In a strong statement to the media, Robles affirmed: “Neither Ceuta nor Melilla should be touched; any aggression towards Ceuta and Melilla is an aggression against Spain as a whole. What happened on the 30th cannot happen again.” The minister made it clear that the support of the Armed Forces, which she considers to be “at home” in Ceuta, will continue “for as long as necessary.”
Furthermore, Robles emphasized the importance of “the full weight of the law falling on the mafias” and thanked the military for their willingness and effort, highlighting that “they have been dedicated for eleven days to supporting and protecting the population of Ceuta,” a task that will continue in the future, for “as long as necessary.”
