On the occasion of its National Holidays, the Embassy of Paraguay celebrated for the fourth consecutive year the concert Serenade to Paraguay, which brought together the best harpists of the South American country, accompanied by guitar and singing.

The Paraguayan ambassador, Justo Apodaca, welcomed the attendees, who filled the Gabriela Mistral auditorium of Casa América. “This celebration, he pointed out,  invites us to reconnect with our countries and at the same time share it with the friends of Paraguay who are with us today. We truly value the presence of all of you. In this gathering we remember with admiration the heroes of the homeland, whose dedication and sacrifice forged a nation that we proudly honor.”

The ambassador also emphasized that this evening was also “an opportunity to strengthen the close ties between Paraguay and Spain, united by bonds of friendship, cooperation, and above all by human ties. The Paraguayan community residing in Spain is an example of work, commitment, and love for their land. It is a community that honors its origins, keeps its traditions alive, and always upholds the name of Paraguay.”

“That spirit of work and resilience that distinguishes our people is also what drives the development of the country. The government of President Santiago Peña actively achieves the attraction of investments, the strengthening of exports, and the international protection of the country. Paraguay stands out for its macroeconomic stability. Currently, GDP growth is over 6% with projections close to 5% for the end of this year, in addition to a growing flow of foreign investments from Spain and other countries currently exceeding 10 billion dollars. The attainment of investment grade by the main rating agencies in the world is an international recognition that consolidates Paraguay as an attractive and reliable destination for investment,” emphasized Justo Apodaca.

The Paraguayan ambassador described the entry into force of the trade agreement between MERCASUR and the European Union as “a historic opportunity to deepen commercial ties between our regions and to continue strengthening the Paraguay-Spain relationship even further.”

“On this beautiful night we invite you to enjoy a concert of Paraguayan harps,” concluded the Paraguayan ambassador, a symbol of our cultural identity. The beauty of this instrument, its unique sound, and its beautiful melodies connect us with the deepest part of our essence. The Paraguayan harp expresses sensitivity, but also strength, tradition, and virtuosity. Qualities that reflect the character of the Paraguayan people, recognized for their warmth, kindness, and fighting spirit.”

Under the artistic direction of Noelia Sanabria, this edition paid tribute to great Paraguayan artists who left an indelible mark on music, such as Ninja Mai, Alma María Vaesken, Luis Alberto del Paraná, Quemil Yambay, Rigoberto Arévalo, Carlos Sosa and others, “who made an invaluable contribution to the dissemination and projection of Paraguayan and Latin American music worldwide,” noted Justo Apodaca.

The concert honored Alma María Vaesken (singer of the group Los tres sudamericanos), who recently passed away, and other Paraguayan singers and composers.
Traditional Paraguayan music was faithfully represented by the excellent harpists and warm voice.
