Casa América presents this afternoon starting at 4 PM in its Simón Bolívar Hall the event Participation of women in mediation processes and peacebuilding: recommendations for Ibero-America.

The event is organized together with the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and the Ibero-American Network of Women Mediators (RIMM), along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain (MAUEC).

The participation of women in mediation processes and peacebuilding remains insufficient, despite international recognition of their fundamental role in conflict prevention and in consolidating more inclusive and lasting agreements, especially since the adoption of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and United Nations Resolution 1325. In this context, various international and Ibero-American actors have reinforced their commitment to promoting effective participation of women in these spaces.

In response to this need, the Ibero-American Network of Women Mediators (RIMM) was created, an initiative aimed at strengthening female leadership in conflict prevention and resolution in the region. The Network promotes cooperation, experience sharing, training, and political advocacy among women mediators, diplomats, academics, and leaders, consolidating itself as a strategic space to generate knowledge, validate good practices, and promote public policies with a gender and intersectional approach.

With the support of the Ibero-American General Secretariat, the RIMM developed the document Recommendations for the participation of women in mediation processes and peacebuilding, which collects regional experiences, identifies structural barriers, and proposes strategies to strengthen the substantive participation of women in peace processes. The presentation of this report at the V Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy seeks to highlight the work of the Network, strengthen political dialogue, and promote alliances that contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable, and representative peace in Ibero-America.

The event will be introduced by Moisés Morera, director of Programming at Casa de América; Lorena Larios Rodríguez, secretary for Ibero-American Cooperation (SEGIB); Gloria Reyes, Minister of Women of the Dominican Republic; Noelia Martínez, representative of Uruguay, in her capacity as the next Pro Tempore President of the RIMM, and Enrique Ochoa, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights (SRE of Mexico) (video).

Subsequently, at 5 PM, there will be a round table titled Recommendations for the participation of women in mediation processes and peacebuilding, in which participants, pending confirmation, will include María Eugenia Solís, expert from Guatemala in the RIMM Committee of Women Experts; Patricia Santana, expert from the Dominican Republic in the RIMM Committee of Women Experts; Larissa Costa, expert from Brazil in the RIMM Committee of Women Experts, and María Villota Vaquero, Advisory Member of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs of the MAUEC.

The event will be closed by Mabel González Bustelo, expert from Spain in the RIMM Committee of Women Experts.
