Conferencia ‘Asunción del Paraguay. De bastión a Ciudad’, fundada en 1537

Conference at Casa América next Monday, June 22 at 6:30 PM titled Asunción del Paraguay. From Bastion to City, led by Herib Caballero, PhD in History, as part of the cycle ‘History and Ibero-American Heritage Cities’. Free entry until full capacity.

This conference will address the historical process of the formation of the city of Asunción del Paraguay, founded in 1537 as Casa Fuerte and later transformed into a city, playing a fundamental role in the Spanish expansion in the northern confines of the Río de la Plata.

Through multiple approaches, it aims to analyze in detail the history and journey of this Ibero-American city, particularly through the review of the information gathered in the residency trials, which allow us to get closer to the experiences, aspirations, and frustrations of those who forged Asunción del Paraguay.

Herib Caballero Campos holds a Bachelor’s and PhD in History from the National University of Asunción and a Master’s in History of the Hispanic World from the CSIC.  He is also a university lecturer and a former fellow of the Carolina Foundation. Currently, he serves as president of the Scientific Society of Paraguay.

Justo Apodaca Paredes, ambassador of Paraguay, will deliver a welcome speech before handing over to the speaker. The event will be moderated by Alicia San Martín Molina, Professor Doctor of American History at the Complutense University of Madrid.
