The ambassador of Mexico, Quirino Ordaz Coppel, presided over the opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate of Mexico in Galicia, based in Ourense, which will be managed by Alfonso Pereira.

The event was attended by the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, and the mayor of Ourense, Gonzalo Pérez, as well as municipal authorities, representatives of public institutions, and members of the state security forces.

The ceremony took place at the historic Liceo de Ourense, in front of a large audience made up of representatives from the business, academic, cultural, and sports sectors of Galicia, as well as members of the Mexican community residing in that region.

The opening of this Honorary Consulate reflects the importance that Mexico places on Galicia within the framework of the bilateral relationship with Spain, as well as the deep historical, cultural, and human ties that unite Mexico with that autonomous community.

Furthermore, it is part of the strategy to strengthen the network of honorary consulates promoted by the Embassy of Mexico in Spain, with the aim of expanding consular assistance to Mexican citizens and enhancing the economic, tourism, academic, and cultural promotion of Mexico. In addition to this Consulate, Mexico has two others in Spain, in Madrid and Barcelona.

Mexico has two consulates general in Spain, in Madrid and Barcelona. Also in Spain, Mexico has 10 Honorary Consulates, in Malaga (to be inaugurated next week), Alicante, Aragon, Mallorca, Murcia, Seville, Tenerife, Valencia, Valladolid and the newly opened one in Ourense.
