Concierto Cuando caiga la tarde

Casa Árabe and the Embassy of Algeria in Spain are organizing, tomorrow Friday at 8 PM, the concert When Evening Falls, by the Algerian singer Neila Benbey. Registration to reserve a spot at this link.

When Evening Falls offers a sonic journey along the shores of the Mediterranean, intertwining musical traditions from Algeria and the Middle East with repertoires that evoke the cultural memory of al-Andalus. Through an intimate and nuanced interpretation, Neila Benbey recovers melodies, rhythms, and poems that converse across different times and geographies, creating a meeting space between Arab, Berber, and Andalusian heritages. The program also includes an emotional tribute to the poets of al-Andalus, whose voices resonate in songs that celebrate the sensitivity, beauty, and creative strength of women in Mediterranean cultural history.

On stage, Neila Benbey will be accompanied by the Kurdish musician Gani Mirzo on the lute and Juan José Barreda on flamenco guitar.

Neila Benbey is a prominent Algerian singer based in Barcelona since 1994, whose music is a vibrant bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean. Her vocal style masterfully fuses her Maghreb roots and Algerian popular music with elements of jazz, flamenco, Kurdish melodies, and traditional Algerian songs. She is known for her long collaboration with the Kurdish-Syrian musician Gani Mirzo, exploring traditional, Eastern, and Mediterranean music.

For his part, Juan Jose Barreda, born in Barcelona, began his journey in the world of flamenco guitar with guitarist Joaquín Herrera. Juan José Barreda has a very open vision of music and flamenco in particular. He has worked with artists from very different fields, including: Els Comediants, Jerry González, or Pasión Vega.

Likewise, Gani Mirzo, born in Qamishhlo, in Syrian Kurdistan, is an expert in Eastern music and a virtuoso of the lute. Recognized for his musical research work in the fusion of rhythms and music from the Middle East with Mediterranean music and jazz, as well as being a great connoisseur of the legacy of the Persian musician Ziryab, one of the most prolific artists of all time.
