The airline Avianca will strengthen connectivity between Spain and the Central American region with the launch of its direct seasonal operation between Madrid and San Salvador, a connection that will facilitate the exchange of tourists, entrepreneurs, and investments between both markets during the summer season.

The route, which is already available, will operate until September 15, 2026, will have four weekly frequencies and more than 2,300 seats each week. The flights will be operated by the Spanish airline Wamos Air on Airbus A330 aircraft with a capacity for 288 passengers.

The new operation between Madrid and San Salvador consolidates the Salvadoran capital as one of the main connection points to access other strategic markets in the region. Thanks to the airline’s network, travelers from Spain will be able to efficiently connect to destinations such as Guatemala City, San José de Costa Rica, or Mexico City, significantly expanding business, investment, and tourism opportunities throughout Central America and the southern United States. The reactivation of the Madrid-San Salvador route is part of the strengthening of Avianca’s transatlantic operation for the summer of 2026.

During this season, the company will reach 67 weekly frequencies between Europe and Latin America, consolidating one of the widest connectivity networks between both continents. With this expansion, Avianca also strengthens its presence in Europe through its main operational points in Madrid, Barcelona, London, and Paris, enhancing connections between European and Latin American markets during the peak travel season.

The event was attended by the ambassador of El Salvador, Anabella Machuca, who thanked the airline Avianca “for betting on this strategic condition, which represents much more than a new flight, providing opportunities, public exchange, cultural exchange, business, and, above all, a greater closeness between people.”

“For this reason,” continued the Salvadoran ambassador, “this direct connection between Madrid and San Salvador helps strengthen stability between El Salvador, Spain, and the rest of Europe, facilitating the flow of travelers, tourists, entrepreneurs, students, and families who wish to maintain children and parents on both sides. This moment also comes at a particularly renewing stage. Our country has experienced a period of positive transformation that is awakening the interest of the world.”

“More and more people want to closely know a nation that is reborn, showing a new reality, a new energy, and a great capacity to project itself internationally with pride and enthusiasm. Tourism is one of the sectors where this transformation is most visible, as El Salvador has established itself as one of the destinations with the highest tourist growth in the American and European continents, attracting visitors interested in discovering its beaches, volcanoes, historic cities, business opportunities, cultural wealth, gastronomy, and, above all, the quality of its food. Therefore, the launch of this route represents a magnificent opportunity for more European travelers to discover what El Salvador has to offer, a country of welcoming emotions, easy to travel, authentic, and full of memorable experiences. I am convinced that this flight will help strengthen tourist and economic exchange,” concluded Ambassador Anabella Machuca.
