Starting tomorrow Friday and until the next July 25, Casa América will screen the Argentine feature film El sueño de Emma (The Dream of Emma). The film, directed by Germán Vilche, explores themes such as love, separation, and personal growth.
This film won the Golden Goat award for Best Film for Youth at the International Young Audience Film Festival Ale Kino (Poland-2023) and the award for Best Contemporary Film at the Ibero-Latin American Film Festival of Trieste (Italy-2024).
In the words of director Vilche, “The Dream of Emma” seeks to explore the limits of love when it is deep and intense. The character of Marcos has many references to my mother, who dedicated her life to others, and also reflects my recent experience as a father. This film unites my vocation as a filmmaker with the themes that resonate with me today and the habitat that connects me spiritually.”
Germán Vilche (Argentina, 1980) has extensive experience in directing television series, documentaries, commercials, music videos, and feature films, both in Argentina and abroad. He has also worked as a director of photography. In 2015, he debuted as a director with the short film Sol de enero, followed by La casa del río in 2017. His feature film debut is with The Dream of Emma (2023).
The film, starring Luthien Ramos, Sebastián Arzeno, Luis Ziembrowski and Verónica Intile, among others, tells how Emma and her dad Marcos live in a humble house in the Delta del Tigre, an area of rivers near Buenos Aires. Emma is rehearsing a Shakespeare play at school and dreams of traveling to London. One day the unthinkable happens, the teacher gets her a cultural exchange scholarship with England. The idea of being separated disarms them, and together they will have to learn to live with detachment and another possible form of love.
Ticket sales at the Box Office located at the Information Point of Casa de América (Plaza de Cibeles s/n).
