The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, highlighted at the General Assembly of PYMAR that the Spanish private naval sector is experiencing one of the strongest moments in its recent history. With an order book exceeding 3,000 million euros and a total of 65 units, the highest level of activity in the last 15 years has been reached.

This milestone highlights the strength and international confidence in Spanish shipyards, positioning Spain as the second European country in terms of naval contracting.

The growth of the sector is not only reflected in the workload but also in its economic and social impact. Data for 2025 is expected to confirm a year-on-year increase in employment of 15% in private shipyards, consolidating their role as an industrial engine and generator of qualified employment in various regions of the country. The Spanish naval industry has focused on high value-added segments, standing out for its technological capacity and specialization in complex projects, which allows it to compete in a challenging global market.

Minister Hereu also emphasized that the sector faces great opportunities and strategic challenges in the future. The transition towards sustainability, the digitalization of industrial processes, and growth in the field of security and defense are some of the priorities. Additionally, participation in the European Maritime Industrial Strategy reaffirms Spain’s role in shaping the future of the sector at the community level. PYMAR, as a fundamental pillar of industrial development, has mobilized more than 4,900 million euros in guarantees for the construction of 823 ships, reinforcing its importance in the competitiveness of the sector.
