Presentation next Thursday, July 9 at 6 PM in the Simón Bolívar Hall of Casa América of the virtual expedition The Spanish Navy in the Birth of the U.S., as part of the activities scheduled to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States. Free entry until full capacity is reached.

The Naval Museum of Madrid, the Naval Museum Foundation and Sol de la Quadra-Salcedo present a new virtual exhibition-expedition on the exhibit From the Caribbean to the English Channel. The Spanish Armada in the Independence of the United States.

This initiative, with educational purposes, aims to spread among young audiences the important help that Spain provided to the Thirteen Colonies on their path to independence and the fundamental role played by the Spanish Armada in this process, which culminated in the birth of the United States.

The original exhibition, held at the Naval Museum of Madrid from October 12, 2022, to February 8, 2023, and curated by Berta Gasca Giménez and Inés Abril Benavides, showed the public how the intervention of the Spanish Armada in the War of Independence of the United States allowed the emerging nation to achieve a quick and advantageous victory, thus becoming, along with France, a powerful ally against English naval power.

The digital conversion of the exhibition, which has been funded by the Naval Museum Foundation, has been developed by Sol de la Quadra-Salcedo and her team of Scientific Illustrated Virtual Expeditions by Sea, Land, and RED, based on the content, design, and pieces of the original exhibit, to which slight changes have been made in the exhibition discourse and integrating various educational resources to offer content more directed at the American audience.

They will welcome the event León de la Torre, general director of Casa de América, and Vice Admiral Enrique Torres Piñeyro, director of the Institute of Naval History and Culture. Participants will include Eduardo Garrigues, ambassador of Spain and president of the Toledo Chapter; Berta Gasca, Technical Director of the Naval Museum in Madrid and curator of the exhibition; Inés Abril, technician of the Naval Museum and curator of the exhibition, and Sol de la Quadra-Salcedo, president of the Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo Association – Real Virtual Society of Scientific Illustrated Expeditioners. (Video intervention). The closing of the event will be led by Begoña Santos, president and CEO of the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute.
