The famous and original monologist El Brujo presents until September 27, 2026, at the Teatro Alcázar in Madrid (Calle Alcalá, 20) the play The Second Coming of Christ or the Yoga of Jesus.
Based on the literary work of Paramahansa Yogananda, this clever monologue with great touches of sharp humor so characteristic of El Brujo (Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts 2002) is the most daring, original, and complex project of his long career. The show offers a fascinating reinterpretation of the Gospels -especially that of Saint John- from a perspective of Eastern philosophy and the science of yoga from India.
Yogananda’s title does not refer to a literal and physical return of Jesus to Earth, as countless prophecies supported by different interpretations of biblical quotes on this topic claim, but rather to an inner experience of that same consciousness manifested by the historical figure Jesus of Nazareth when he was in the world. Yogananda argues that through defined techniques and scientific methods of meditation we can access that supreme level of Consciousness, through the channel of our own perception and our own consciousness.
The author points out that “on this idea I make an interpretation of the Christian gospels from the perspective of the spiritual wisdom of the ancient yogis of India. An original version of the genuine teachings of Jesus Christ that shows the essential identity of these with the Vedic tradition and the ancient knowledge of the science of Yoga. My work in this has consisted of exposing that teaching of mystical yoga that Yogananda shows following some of the episodes of the life and miracles of Jesus, according to the gospels and specifically that of Saint John.”
The style is once again indebted to the theatrical work of the great master Dario Fo, combining humor, gesturality, sound, silence, and word like the ancient minstrels of the medieval period. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
