During the reception to celebrate its National Day, Todor Stoyanov highlighted the “excellent” relations with Spain and his country’s entry into the euro.
The new Bulgarian ambassador to Spain, Todor Stoyanov, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the construction of the European Union and expressed pride that, after its accession to the Schengen area in 2025, since January 1, “Bulgaria is also a member of the eurozone, thus fully completing its political and economic integration into our great European family.”
After reviewing the history of the Balkan country since its birth, the ambassador highlighted that “today Bulgaria is a free, sovereign, and prosperous country, a member of the European Union and NATO“ that, even in its most difficult moments, “has not bowed down and has reaffirmed its national identity,” in the context of European nations.
During the reception held at the Cultural Center of the Armies in Madrid, Stoyanov emphasized that “today Bulgaria and Spain are more than partners and friends; they are faithful and loyal allies in the European Union and in the Euro-Atlantic framework, where they share values and a common vision.” The ambassador described bilateral relations as “excellent” and added that “the political dialogue (between both countries) is active and substantial, which undoubtedly has a positive impact on all our ties.”
The ambassador had a special memory for the Bulgarian community in Spain by noting that “beyond political, economic, and commercial ties, our states are united by even stronger reasons,” such as “the hundreds of thousands of Bulgarians who today live on Spanish soil and contribute to making Bulgaria more recognizable and closer.”
This is the second largest Bulgarian diaspora in Europe, “successfully integrated thanks to their work and human qualities and the support of our friends.” This community, said Stoyanov, “has become the most natural link between our peoples and actively promotes the Bulgarian language and culture, thus becoming the best ambassadors of Bulgaria in Spain.”
During the reception, which was attended by former King Simeon of Bulgaria, the Embassy and the Bulgarian Institute of Culture in Rome offered a concert of lyrical singing featuring sopranos Decana Savova and Vihra Smilkova, tenor Juan Noval Moro, and pianist Ilia Lozanov.
