The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, participated in the NATO ministerial meeting held in Helsingborg (Sweden), at a key moment ahead of the Ankara summit scheduled for July. This meeting brought together the foreign ministers of the Alliance, where crucial topics such as the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East were discussed.
During the two days of work, Albares emphasized the need to consolidate cohesion among allies in the face of the international crisis generated by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and the instability in the Middle East. “The need for a stronger Europe is imperative at this moment,” said the minister, who also called for the reactivation of negotiations to end hostilities in the region.
The Spanish minister also met with his counterparts from Canada, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, and Turkey, addressing issues of collective security and defense cooperation. Albares reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to NATO, highlighting the country’s significant contributions to collective security and its role in the assistance mission in Iraq.
