In a ceremony full of symbolism, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, bid farewell to the soldiers of the BRILIB XLV, who will join the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
This contingent takes over from the ‘Libre Hidalgo’ operation, in a context of high tension in the region. Robles highlighted the prestige of this mission, in which Spain has been involved for 20 years, and expressed her pride in the work that the Spanish Armed Forces do for stability and security in the area.
The BRILIB XLV, composed of troops from the Mountain Troops Command ‘Roncesvalles’, includes regiments from Pamplona and Jaca. A total of 337 men and women will be under their command, forming part of a contingent that amounts to nearly 650 personnel. During the ceremony, Robles also emphasized the importance of family support for the soldiers, acknowledging their essential role in this mission.
In parallel, the minister will welcome tonight at the Torrejón Air Base the latest rotation of the BRILIB XLIV contingent, led by Major General Antonio Ramón Bernal. This mission, which has 11,000 personnel from different countries, continues to be a reference under the UN flag, despite the challenges it faces, including attacks and incursions in the region.
