Los colombianos en España se decantan por Iván Cepeda frente a Abelardo de la Espriella

Iván Cepeda, candidate of the Political Movement Historical Pact of the current Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, “won” yesterday by a narrow margin the first round of the Colombian presidential elections in Spain, against the ultraconservative candidate Abelardo de la Espriella. Both will have to face each other again in the second round on June 21.

41.44% of registered Colombians in Spain voted in the elections held on Sunday to elect the new president of the country. A total of 127,637 out of 307,996 Colombians residing with the right to vote participated. Of them, 42.57% opted for the leftist candidate, Iván Cepeda, and 40.76% supported the representative of the Defenders of the Homeland party, Abelardo de la Espriella.

In an election that all analysts consider very close, a difference of almost two points separates the two main contenders in terms of results in Spain in favor of Cepeda. A result that reverses, also by a narrow margin, in several departments of Colombian territory, which allows De la Espriella to win in the overall count of the country by just over two points.
