Luis Iberico, ambassador of Peru, clarified that he will fulfill his duties as ambassador in Spain until the last days of July, so he will continue to promote the strengthening of bilateral relations between both countries.

Due to the presidential runoff, which will be held this coming Sunday, June 7, and which will face the right-wing Keiko Fujimori Higuchi, of Fuerza Popular (FP), against the leftist Roberto Sánchez Palomino, of Juntos por el Perú (JP), after the first round on April 12, in a press release, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced last Tuesday the “termination of duties” of the ambassadors of Peru in Costa Rica, France, India, the United States and Spain, all of whom were appointed through political appointment, who “must cease their duties without fail at the end of the governmental period that appointed them.”

In light of this fact, Ambassador Luis Iberico explained that, although there is indeed a supreme resolution published in the Official Newspaper El Peruano stating that his duties as ambassador of Peru in Spain are terminated, the end date will be set by a ministerial resolution, “which in my case would be until the end of July.”

Given the continuity in his position, the Peruvian ambassador will receive this week the state ministers who will arrive in Spain to participate in a roadshow, an activity aimed at positioning the country as a safe destination for investments.

Precisely, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Pareja Ríos, clarified today that political ambassadors will cease their duties in July, before the end of the current Government.

According to the Andina news agency, when asked about his management, Ambassador Iberico indicated that it was focused on working hard to strengthen bilateral relations between Peru and Spain, for which he highlighted the diplomatic work carried out. He also stated that he is “satisfied with his work, which he developed alongside an excellent diplomatic team that allowed for the promotion of topics of great interest.”

When asked by the editorial team of Diplomacy News, the Peruvian ambassador did not want to make further statements and expressed his desire to continue working in the diplomatic mission until his departure.

“I am satisfied, we have done a great job, we participated in trade and tourism roadshows, we promoted the gastronomy that has a great impact here, for example, in Madrid there are more than 250 Peruvian restaurants, there is no Spaniard who does not talk about Peruvian food,” he highlighted.
