Yesterday Wednesday, the Embassy of Colombia hosted a conversation aimed at disseminating the Feminist Foreign Policy, in which Colombian women’s organizations from all over Spain participated.

The meeting included the participation of the chancellor Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, the ambassador Eduardo Ávila Navarrete and the Consulate of Colombia in Madrid.

The Feminist Foreign Policy constitutes one of the most important advances in terms of equality, human rights, and institutional transformation for the Government of Colombia. President Gustavo Petro signed last March, at the Casa de Nariño (the official residence of the President of the Republic of Colombia and the main seat of the national Government), the decree that adopts the Feminist Foreign Policy (PEF), a strategy with which the Government seeks to integrate the gender approach into Colombia’s foreign policy.

The initiative is part of the commitments established in the National Development Plan 2022–2026 ‘Colombia, World Power of Life’, approved by Law 2294 of 2023, which places gender equality as a central axis in the country’s foreign policy, both in bilateral and multilateral scenarios and international cooperation.

Colombia participated in the V Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy, held in Madrid, Spain, under the slogan Building peace and democracy, a high-level space that brought together ministers of foreign relations, representatives of multilateral organizations, civil society organizations, academia, and feminist movements from different regions of the world.

During the day and the presentation of the Political Declaration of Madrid, Colombia’s Minister of Foreign Relations, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, highlighted the importance of consolidating gender equality as a fundamental principle for building more democratic, peaceful, and inclusive societies. “Gender equality is not a sectoral or complementary issue, it is an indispensable condition for advancing as humanity,” affirmed the chancellor.
