Mexican Film Week in Madrid

This third edition of the Mexican Film Week kicks off this coming Thursday, June 25, and runs until July 5, lasting ten days in 12 theaters in the Spanish capital. A showcase that will offer more than 40 new titles of fiction, documentary, and restored classics from Mexican cinema; a retrospective of actress Silvia Pinal, discussions, and Q&A sessions with special guests.

Established as one of the main platforms for showcasing Mexican audiovisual content in Spain, this new edition will bring together more than forty titles in twelve venues in the capital, with a program that encompasses the best of contemporary and classic cinema produced in Mexico.

For eleven days, emblematic spaces such as the Academy of Cinema, Cine Doré, Sala Berlanga, Cine Estudio del Círculo de Bellas Artes, Sala Equis, Cine Yelmo Ideal, Cibeles de Cine, and the Fundación Casa de México itself, among others, will host screenings, meetings with creators, masterclasses, and special activities aimed at both the general public and industry professionals.

The program will be structured into four major sections: fiction premieres, documentary premieres, special sessions, and a retrospective dedicated to Silvia Pinal, an essential figure in Mexican cinema and an icon of international cinema. This retrospective, curated by Roberto Fiesco, proposes a journey through the different stages of an exceptional career that spanned more than six decades and made Pinal one of the most versatile and beloved performers in the Spanish-speaking world.

As part of its commitment to bringing Mexican cinema closer to audiences of all ages, this edition will also include two family activities inspired by the cinematic universe. On Saturday, June 27, Shhhh! Sound Action: Foley and Sound Effects Workshop, a participatory activity where children will discover how the sounds that bring movies to life are created using techniques used in the audiovisual industry, will be held.

On Saturday, July 4, Dress Up Like a Movie!: Costumes for Unique Characters, a creative workshop that will invite participants to explore costume design and character building through imagination, play, and artistic expression, will take place. Both activities bring families closer to the creative processes of cinema in a playful and educational way at FCME.

The schedule can be consulted on the website of the Fundación Casa de México.
