In a meeting held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, the Minister of Defense of Spain, Margarita Robles, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, to strengthen bilateral cooperation between both countries.

During the meeting, Robles emphasized the importance of conveying a message of firm unity at the upcoming NATO summit, scheduled for July 7 and 8 in Ankara, stressing that this unity is “the best guarantee against the enemies of democracy.”

Both agreed that the summit will be a key opportunity to strengthen the strategic role of the Atlantic Alliance in a critical geopolitical context. “It will be an important meeting to showcase the idea of unity and to reinforce the European pillar,” Robles expressed. For his part, Kosiniak-Kamysz thanked Spain for its continued support in the face of current security challenges, including the threat of hybrid attacks by Russia.

The excellent state of bilateral relations was also evidenced by the awarding of the Bronze Medal of the Polish Army to four Spanish soldiers, in recognition of their collaboration during joint service in the ‘NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy’ and in the ‘Inherent Resolve’ operation in Iraq. Additionally, the joint acquisition of MRTT tanker aircraft was discussed, which will be financed with SAFE funds, and regarding which Robles assured that “work will be done together as quickly as possible.”
