Informe ‘Chinese FDI in Spain: Global Outlook 2026’

ICEX-Invest in Spain, in collaboration with KPMG, has presented today at the ICEX Auditorium the study ‘Chinese FDI in Spain: Global Outlook 2026’. This report, which is the second edition following the success of the previous one in 2023, examines the perception, investment plans, and prospects of Chinese capital companies established in Spain. The research is based on responses from 82 companies and interviews with eight executives in the sector.

Despite a context of geopolitical uncertainty and protectionist tensions, 97% of the surveyed Chinese companies plan to maintain or increase their investments in Spain by 2026. Micaela Arias, executive director of ICEX-Invest in Spain, highlighted that the country is very receptive to foreign investment, being classified as the eleventh least restrictive in the OECD in terms of investment.

The study also highlights that 40% of Chinese companies invest in R&D in Spain, an increase from 34% the previous year. Geographic location, market size, and access to other markets are the main factors that make Spain an attractive destination. Additionally, the business climate, quality of life, and infrastructure are highly valued aspects by the respondents. With 71% of companies anticipating an increase in their workforce in 2026, Chinese investments are significantly contributing to the reindustrialization and job creation in the country.
