The ambassador of Angola in Spain, Balbina Malheiros, “formally presented her Letters of Credentials to the Secretary General of UN Tourism, Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, “thus reaffirming the importance of Angola as an active member of the organization and consolidating the strategic relationship for the development of the sector,” according to the Angolan diplomatic mission in a statement.
During the meeting following the presentation of the credentials, the Secretary General of UN Tourism confirmed that this specialized agency of the United Nations keeps the “doors open” to support the growth of the sector in Angola through ongoing technical and institutional assistance, as well as in attracting foreign investment and promoting it as a destination of excellence.
Ambassador Balbina da Silva reiterated that Angola will work very closely with the technical team of UN Tourism to develop the national tourism sector, integrating it into the country’s economic diversification strategy.
As part of this alliance, the Angolan diplomatic mission in Spain “plays a central role in coordinating programs aimed at Angolan economic diversification, with a special focus on training the local workforce in the face of global market challenges,” the statement emphasizes.
The strengthened cooperation, for which a bilateral working group has been created, provides for access to specialized educational programs and the integration of officials and students into technical immersion initiatives at the organization’s headquarters.
Recently, this alliance materialized with the launch of the guide ‘Tourism Doing Business: Investing in Angola’, a strategic instrument that details opportunities in ecotourism, hospitality, and resorts for international investors.
In addition, Angola was highlighted in the UN Tourism barometer as the African destination with the highest growth in 2025, recording a 30% increase in international arrivals.
During the meeting, the continuity of institutional support for programs such as the Global Tourism Forum Investment Summit Angola, which will take place in Luanda from June 17 to 19, 2026, was also emphasized, reinforcing Angola’s position on the international agenda for sustainable tourism.
