The Ministry of Industry and Tourism of Spain, through the State Secretariat for Tourism, has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the British Association of Travel Agents (ABTA) and the municipalities of Benidorm (Alicante), Calvià (Mallorca), Lloret de Mar (Girona), and Seville.
The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, highlighted that this initiative, which aims to promote a tourism management model that prioritizes sustainability, digitalization, and innovation, represents a significant advance in the public governance of tourism, aligning with the Tourism Strategy 2030. This pact not only aims to improve the management of destinations with high tourist influx but also focuses on the British market, which remains the leader in terms of arrivals and spending in Spain.
The agreement, which has an initial validity of two years, will allow the exchange of recommendations and best practices to achieve a more balanced and sustainable tourism. Additionally, the use of new technologies and data is expected to improve decision-making. The collaboration will also be open to other destinations interested in participating in this transformation towards a tourism that benefits both visitors and local communities.
