Cuadrilátero

The Fridays and Saturdays from May 8 to 30 (except for May 15, when there will be no screening due to a holiday in Madrid), Casa América will screen the Peruvian film of 2024 Cuadrilátero, directed by Daniel Rodríguez Risco, at 7:30 PM in its Sala Iberia.

The feature film stars Lizet Chávez, Gonzalo Molina, Fausto Molina, Amil Mikati, Valentina Saba and Gianfranco Brero, among others.

Cuadrilátero tells the territorial behavior of a human family where the absurd is treated in a mundane way. The life of Adriana, her husband, and their two children unfolds with military precision, but the delicate family balance is disrupted by her pregnancy. In Adriana’s mind, there is only room for four. The five family members fight among themselves to secure one of the four spaces.

The film was awarded at the first edition of the Madrid Festival of Cinema of the Americas with the Huella de América award for Best Feature Film (ex-aequo). It has also been an official selection at numerous festivals such as Biarritz (France), Chicago (United States), and Sitges (Spain). In Punta del Este (Uruguay), it won the Critics’ Award for Best Film and in Freiburg (Germany), it was distinguished with the Special Jury Award and the Comundo Award, given by the young jury.

The director comments: “Cuadrilátero is a kind of recreation of painful events from our childhood, from our family, and thanks to the power of cinema we have been able to reimagine those events, it is like a striptease, but in reverse.”

Daniel Rodríguez Risco (Peru, 1959) is a director, screenwriter, producer, and writer. He completed a Master’s in Film at New York University. He also works as a teacher and is the rector of the Universidad Privada del Norte (UPN) in Peru. Quadrilátero (2024) is his fifth feature film and is considered one of the most outstanding films of recent Ibero-American cinema production. His latest feature film is La costurera (2025).
