Spain and Saudi Arabia signed this week an Agreement for the Establishment of the Strategic Partnership Council, which will strengthen bilateral relations and elevate cooperation in key areas such as politics, economy, energy, defense, or culture, among others.

According to a statement from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, met on Wednesday with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, in Madrid. During the meeting, both ministers focused on how to strengthen bilateral relations, elevate them to a strategic partnership, and advance the deepening and growing relationship, based on the historical ties and bonds of friendship between the leaders and peoples of both kingdoms.

Both ministers expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in various areas such as security, defense, trade, investment, and culture, as well as multilateral cooperation, and expressed their commitment to continue strengthening the strategic partnership and the future opportunities it offers.

In addition to the signing of the Agreement for the Establishment of the Strategic Partnership Council between Saudi Arabia and Spain, a Agreement on the mutual exemption of visas for holders of diplomatic, special, and service passports was also signed during the visit.

On the other hand, both parties exchanged views on the evolution of the regional situation and emphasized the importance of respecting international law and the need to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon. They also reiterated their call for ensuring security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
