The Gallery of the 10th of the French Institute of Madrid inaugurated a new exhibition by Isabel Muñoz, Fuerte, Fuerte (Strong Strong), curated by Anne Morin, which will be on display until July 10.

This exhibition is a tribute to the great French figures who have supported and accompanied her work, bringing together several of her emblematic series in a staging that reveals all its strength.

The work of Isabel Muñoz (born in 1951 in Barcelona and based in Madrid since the seventies) revolves around a deep exploration of the body, rituals, and cultures of the world. For more than forty years, the photographer has traveled through multiple territories – from Africa to Asia, passing through Latin America – resulting in important series such as Bulls, Love and Ecstasy, The Beast, Identities or Water.

Her work is constructed slowly and is deposited in time, weaving links between temporalities and revealing the mineral essence of a world on the verge of extinction. Conceived as an installation, this exhibition invites the visitor to delve into this web of images, where each photograph acts as a “knot” that connects the past and the present. This immersive approach highlights the particularities of her work: an attention to the body, to ritual, and to memory, where the image becomes a passage between worlds.

During the presentation, Isabel Muñoz announced her next artistic project, focused on Philip II and the Library of El Escorial, which will be presented within the framework of PHotoESPAÑA under the title The Stones of Heaven. She described a passionate research work that has led her to discover a complex historical figure, surrounded by characters such as Arias Montano, Father Sigüenza, or Juan de Herrera, and an intellectual court that protected Arabic and Hebrew knowledge behind the backs of the Inquisition.
