The film La vie après Siham, a Franco-Egyptian co-production from 2025, tells how when Siham disappears, Namir does not understand that she is gone forever. For him, a mother is immortal. Namir then embarks on investigating his family history, between Egypt and France. As a reflection of Youssef Chahine’s cinema, a story of exile begins to take shape. Full of love, too. Alive, forever.
Namir Abdel Messeeh spent his early years in Egypt before settling in France, where he studied directing at Fémis. He made several short films before tackling more intimate themes with Toi, Waguih. His first feature film, La Vierge, les Coptes et moi, humorously explores the relationship with his homeland and his Coptic family. Selected in numerous festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, and CPH:DOX, the film won the Tanit de Plata at the JCC of Carthage in 2011 and the best documentary award at the Doha festival, before reaching 112,000 viewers in French theaters. La Vie après Siham is his second feature film. It premiered at the ACID of Cannes.
