The Instituto Cervantes of Madrid, in collaboration with the Círculo Orellana, presents tomorrow Wednesday at 7 PM, a new conference of the X edition of the cycle Spanish Women to Discover, with a presentation that will bring closer the figure of Zenobia Camprubí, essayist, translator, teacher, pioneer of feminism.
A prominent member of the Lyceum Club Femenino and wife of the poet Juan Ramón Jiménez, with whom she closely collaborated in his literary and teaching work, the conference on this figure of Spanish literature (born in Malgrat de Mar on August 31, 1887, and died in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 28, 1956) will be given by the philologist Emilia Cortés.
Zenobia Camprubí translated English classics such as Shakespeare, Poe and, mainly, the complete works of Tagore, which was fundamental for the dissemination of the Bengali poet in the Spanish-speaking world.
Furthermore, she was the organizer, literary agent, and secretary of her husband, managing his publications and protecting his mental health, often sacrificing her own creative time for the poet’s work.
Admission is free and it is advisable to reserve a seat at this link. It is possible to follow the event at this link.
