The Teatro Gran Vía in Madrid (Gran Vía street, 66) presents from June 10 to 14 Galata: A Danced Journey through the History of Istanbul, created and directed by Cristiane Azem.
Galata offers a journey through the history of the city of Istanbul from its founding by the Greeks under Byzantium to its transformation into the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire under the name of Constantinople and, finally, to its establishment as the most important city of the Ottoman Empire.
In this show, the dancers of the professional company Cristiane Azem join forces on stage with those from the educational core “Galata”, studying Turkey, with a spectacular wardrobe based on a study of historical and pictorial research in a carefully crafted staging.
During the two hours of staging, the audience will travel through History and experience how the Orientalists of the 19th century felt and live the experience of Istanbul, the most fascinating city in the world.
For the first time in Spain, a show to the rhythm of Turkish music and folklore, an opportunity to discover the quality and variety of the art of this land and its artists: the great variety of styles, rhythms, and different influences from the East. Among others, dances such as the Roman and the Horon stand out.
