The ambassador of South Korea, Lim Soosuk, met on June 18 with the Spanish dancer Alessandro Navarro to exchange views on ways to promote cooperation and exchanges in the fields of culture and the arts between both countries.
Alessandro Navarro is the only Spanish dancer who develops his professional activity in Korea. Throughout his career, he joined institutions such as the Seoul Ballet Theatre and the National Contemporary Dance Company of Korea. He currently works as a freelance dancer, presenting the traditional Korean dance, Salpurichum, on national and international stages.
Born in Pineda de Mar (Barcelona), Alessandro Navarro felt a clear vocation for classical dance and ballet from his childhood. Before settling in Asia, he completed his training and worked in various dance companies and theaters in Switzerland and Germany. During a European tour, he got to know Korean culture and, after receiving a formal job offer, decided to move permanently to Seoul.
He currently organizes international workshops, such as the first showcase of traditional Catalan dance (sardanas) at festivals in South Korea. He also co-leads the international project of Hispanic-Swiss-Korean music and dance Minotauro, with presentations at key institutions such as the Cervantes Institute in Seoul.
