To commemorate the 145 years of diplomatic relations between Spain and Romania, the exhibition The Romania-Spain Relationship Reflected in the Press. A Bilateral Historical Perspective, will be open for visits from June 29 to July 26 at the Paseo de Coches in El Retiro Park.

The Embassy of Romania, together with the Romanian Cultural Institute and with the support of the AGERPRES National Press Agency, presents this exhibition inviting visitors to explore this common journey through the perspective of the press, a privileged witness of each era. From the first news published in 19th-century newspapers to the reports and chronicles of our days, its pages reflect the moments, the people, and the events that have brought the two countries closer together.

Through the links between the Royal Houses, diplomatic relations, cultural exchanges, the business and sports sectors, as well as the human ties that unite our societies and continue to project strongly into the future, the exhibition highlights the richness of a relationship built on exchange, cooperation, and mutual respect. These ties have contributed to consolidating a solid Strategic Partnership and a lasting friendship between Romania and Spain.

On June 23, 1881, during the reigns of Carol I of Romania and Alfonso XII of Spain, the two countries established diplomatic relations at the legation level, with the presentation in Bucharest of the letters of credence of Pedro de Aladro and Kastriota, chargé d’affaires ad interim of Spain. That event marked the beginning of a solid bilateral relationship based on dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation.
