The zarzuela ‘La verbena de la Paloma’ returns to Madrid, more traditional than ever

La verbena de la Paloma

The Paloma Festival returns to the Gran Vía Theater (Gran Vía street, 66) in Madrid from August 6 to 16 in a production awarded 5 Zalea awards 2026, given by professionals in the lyrical field: Best director, best actress, best singing actor, best young singer, and best poster. Tickets are already on sale at this link.

This famous zarzuela has set a “box office record” season after season at the Gran Vía Theater in Madrid with a cast of great professionals from the Spanish lyrical scene. All the flavor of the typical Madrid festival on stage.

The Gran Vía theater becomes one of the popular neighborhoods in Madrid where the festival of the Virgin of La Paloma is celebrated. Don Hilarión, the pharmacist, and Don Sebastián comment on the warmth of the night, while the neighbors are celebrating. Everyone except Julián, who is consumed by jealousy caused by his girlfriend Susana. The “señá” Rita, who loves him like a son, tries to console him and give him good advice, but cannot prevent the boy from discovering that Susana’s aunt, Antonia, wants to pair her with the pharmacist, although he values her as much as his sister Casta. A blonde or a brunette.

Once again, the performances of La verbena de la Paloma will be immersive. In each performance, the audience will be able to experience the celebration of the festival from within as an immersive experience. A very special summer night of zarzuela with many surprises for the attendees.

The Paloma Festival brings together the wonderful music of Tomás Bretón, a fun and clever libretto by Ricardo de la Vega that has all the flavor of late 19th century Madrid and the staging that, while classical, adds wonderful numbers from the género chico and some new compositions that completely blend with the original work.
