Stanisław Lem

The Impedimenta publishing house and the Instituto Polaco de Cultura invite you to a celebration and reivindication of the work of Stanisław Lem, on the twentieth anniversary of his death, one of the most unique and visionary authors of the 20th century.

The event, titled Lem. A world that is not of this world, will take place on May 5th at 7:30 PM, at the Parenthesis Bookstore (30 Valencia Street, Madrid), and will consist of a discussion with Enrique Redel and Wojciech Orliński.

Author of fundamental titles such as Solaris, The Invincible, The Master’s Voice or Memoirs Found in a Bathtub, Lem took science fiction far beyond the genre, combining imagination, humor, philosophy, and a critical view of technology and humanity. In recent years, the Impedimenta publishing house has recovered much of his work for new readers, culminating in the publication of Time Unlost, the early and lesser-known trilogy of the author and an essential part of his literary trajectory.

Wojciech Orliński was born in Warsaw in 1969. A journalist at Gazeta Wyborcza, he is considered the world’s leading expert on the work of the Polish science fiction writer Stanisław Lem. He is the author of the fantasy novel Poland Does Not Exist (2015) and various science fiction stories. He has also written Internet. Time to Be Afraid (2013), and the biography of Paul Baran, The Man Who Invented the Internet (2019). He has been awarded the Silesian Fantasy Club: Slakfa in the category of Editor of the Year 2018.
