Entroido de Cobres

El Entroido de Cobres, fiesta popular que se celebra en Pontevedra, Galicia.

The Secretary of State for Tourism has awarded the “Entroido de Cobres”, celebrated in Pontevedra, Galicia, the distinction of a National Tourist Interest festival.

This decision highlights the cultural richness of the festival, which is characterized by its antiquity, its continuity since the 18th century, as well as the originality of the costumes of its characters and the variety of dances and rituals that compose it.

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez Grau, emphasized that this festival is unique in Galicia, as the characters that participate do not wear masks, which underscores the blend of tradition, culture, craftsmanship, and popular expression. With this new distinction, the Entroido de Cobres becomes the twelfth National Tourist Interest festival in Galicia and the number 162 in the whole of Spain. This decision highlights the cultural richness of the festival, which is characterized by its antiquity, its continuity since the 18th century, as well as the originality of the costumes of its characters and the variety of dances and rituals that compose it.

Traditionally, the Entroido was organized by “os mozos” or “cofrades”, a group of young people who traveled through the parishes to raise funds. Currently, the procession is composed exclusively of madamas and galanes, accompanied by the bagpipe band Aires de Cobres. The celebration, which takes place from Saturday to Tuesday of Carnival, includes various highlighted events, such as the “Corrida do Galo”, where games and performances culminate in a symbolic dance and a tribute to the participants.
