The National Institute of Statistics (INE) has revealed that the total spending of international tourists in April 2026 amounted to 11.6 billion euros, representing an increase of 7.4% compared to the same month of the previous year.

This growth occurs in a context where the number of tourists arriving in Spain slightly exceeded 9 million, marking an increase of 5.2% compared to the previous year.

During the first quarter of 2026, the accumulated spending of international tourists reached over 36.7 billion euros, 6.7% more than in the same period of 2025. In terms of arrivals, 26.5 million tourists were recorded, representing a growth of 3.4%. The United Kingdom led the spending, with 15.9% of the total, although Germany experienced a decline of 8.7% in its expenditure.

Catalonia, Andalusia, and the Community of Madrid were the autonomous communities that concentrated the highest spending from tourists, with annual increases of 10.8%, 8.3%, and 15.5%, respectively. Additionally, it is observed that each tourist spent an average of 1,291 euros in April, an increase of 2.1% year-on-year. Most tourists stayed between four and seven nights, and more than 7.1 million traveled without a tourist package, representing an increase of 5.3%. These data indicate that tourism in Spain continues to strengthen in 2026.
