In July, the number of affiliates in the tourism sector in Spain grew by 110,712 people, reaching a total close to 3.1 million workers, according to data from Turespaña. This increase of 3.7% compared to the same month of the previous year contrasts with the growth of 2.8% in the labor market in general, which means that tourism employment now represents 13.9%% of the total affiliates in the country.
The growth was particularly noticeable in hospitality, where 70,409 affiliates were added, distributed among 21,246 in accommodation services and 49,163 in food and beverage services. However, travel agencies experienced a decrease of 1,587 workers, although this figure does not reflect a real decline, as it is due to changes in the classification of activities within the CNAE.
Regarding salaried employment, which constitutes 85% of the sector, it increased by 4.1% compared to the same month last year. Despite the drop of 1.5% in travel agencies and tour operators, employment in hospitality grew by 4%, highlighting a 3.6% increase in accommodation services and a 4.1% increase in food and beverage services. The Valencian Community led the growth, with an increase of 5% compared to June.
